01/10/2012 Day 4 Paleo Challenge
Bring It Bitches
I wanted to give a quick shout out to all of the 99 people who are fighting for second place. I just wanted to share two quick things.
1. I'm going strict, like a Nun, my Habit will not be lifted for a single ounce of sugar, or legume. I've cleaned out my cupboard of anything canned or bagged that resembles a bean, or has any form of "-ose", including spice rubs which i thought were ok, are just crap.
2. I broke up with food along time ago, and don't have too many things that I crave. You can read about the break-up here, so even with my Power Supply meals, I'm choosing not to eat the nuts, or starches like sweet potatoes, or beets.
3. I'm doing everything I can to be prepared, and not find myself in a circumstance where I have to choose to eat something shitty. I spent an hour last night just cooking up chicken, veggies, and pre-packing salads for the next week.
4. Fitness is a metaphor for life, its simple your output is dictated by your input. I'm going to outwork everyone, and continue to find ways to take my hard work and make it more efficient, so while you choose to give 80% of your maximum effort, I'm giving 100% and then finding ways to turn that into 110%. If you want to shut me up, then do something about it, and bring it hard.
I’m by no means saying that I am leading a better life than you, but I am saying I am going to crush all of you in this challenge. Again there’s only one way to shut-up a shit talker, make him look like an ass, and make him call himself an Asshole.
5. I'm Korean. Do I have to say more? I wasn't given much encouragement as a kid, other than "Why B?, You Die Now!" While many of fellow competitors had parents who bribed them to get good grades, I had a choice of either getting good grades, or being dealt with in this manner:
This ultimately has conditioned my existence to follow instruction, and to not accept being average.
Conclusion:
You want to shut me up, Bring Your A Game.
WoD
I woke up late this morning, about 30 minutes later than I normally like to get up for a WoD. It didn’t give me much time to figure out what to eat before I went to Patriot CrossFit, the only thing that I could do was to grab three slices of Applegate Roast Beef. I was chewing on the beef as I was walking down the hallway of my building, I don’t think I was completely awake as I got onto the elevator to the parking garage.
I got to Patriot about 5 minutes before the start of the class, which didn’t leave me much of an opportunity to stretch or get warmed-up before the WoD. The WoD today involved doing snatch balances; the prescribed work was 5 sets of 2. I did all of my work at 145 lbs, here is video from my warm-up at 135 lbs, and my last set of 145 lbs. It’s incredible how much slower I am with 10 more pounds.
The Metcon today was a 12 minute AMRAP, of 5 HSPU, 5 Power Cleans, and 5 Pull-Ups. Ericka let us know that this should be a strength oriented Metcon, which means that we should pick weights which are challenging, and force us to push ourselves.
This WoD was one where I had to scale everything, instead of Hand Stand Push Ups, I did seated dumbbell presses 3 sets at 50 lbs, 1 set at 45lbs, and 2 sets at 35 lbs, I did three sets of power cleans at 155 lbs, and 3 sets at 145 lbs. With the Pull-ups I had to scale with a black and green band. In the 12 minutes I finished 6 rounds plus 1 rep.
Any WoD which is focused on body weight motions, just fuck me up, if you added burpees, and running this would have been like CrossFit purgatory.
Paleo Diet
My day four meals can be read here…
Going into the fourth day of the Paleo Challenge, I found that in the middle of the day I didn’t pack enough to eat, which prompted a mid-afternoon trip to Whole Foods. I was finding that way I am eating this last week is close to how I ate after fat camp last year, with one clear distinct difference, the complete elimination of sugar.
I am surprised to find myself searching for something during my meals, it always feel like something is missing, and I know it’s the sweet flavor of anything. I am not craving it, nor do I feel I need to have it, but it’s like a missing tooth, my tongue is somewhat searching for it. Yes I am a recovering Whiteman crack addict.
Another small revelation I had today was during the WoD, I just felt more powerful. In doing the snatch balances I know I could have gone heavier but would have clearly sacrificed the speed. Even when doing the Metcon I was able to be more explosive which allowed me to get through 3 rounds of Power Cleans at 155 lbs. Prior to this Metcon I have only gotten 155 lbs up in a Power Clean a handful of times.
I am anxious to see if the scale moves at all this week.
At the rate you’re going I wouldn’t be surprised if you lose a couple of pounds a week (2 maybe?). I’m just as anxious as you to see the results.
seriously nice snatch balances, that’s a decent weight.
you look less fat too.
Shady is right — you totally look less fat.
Chesley,
I think even if I don’t lose 2-3 this week, I can feel a change. My face is less bloated, and my pants feel looser.
So we shall see, what is awesome is how much better I feel during the Metcons.
Lou
PS I’m glad blog is free from filtering.
@Alex and Shady, Thanks that’s the nicest compliment that anyone has given me…
That’s great news!!! The first couple of weeks are the hardest as your body adjusts. You’ll forge through, I know it.
P.S- Me too!
