01/16/2012 Paleo Challenge Day 10
WoD
I started the morning off with my usual 6 AM WoD at Patriot Crossfit. Today’s work involved doing front squats, and a metcon of four 300-meter sprints. The way the schedule has worked over the last couple of weeks, I haven’t done much squatting. As much as I hate Front Squats I was happy to do a squat.
The work involved doing 4 sets of 4. I was able to work up to doing my last two sets at 155 lbs. This is an accomplishment for me because I barely have a racked position, so the first time I did 135 lbs, it was like I had crossed some major imaginary threshold. My goal now is to work until I can get the yellow plates on along with the red ones so I am doing 185 lbs.
I recorded video but have not uploaded to youtube, so no Shady can’t comment on my shoes, because I did them barefoot.
The Metcon was to row 300 meters 4 times, with breaks in-between as needed. I set the damper to 7 and tried my best to do the 300 meters under 1 minute, but was unable to maintain the pace for the final 50 meters. I’m confident I can do 500 meters under 2 minutes, but in trying to do 250 meters in less than 45 seconds it seems like it’s a million mile away.
I was able to maintain solid split times, 1:03.3, 103.1, 103.8, 103.3. I took short breaks between rounds because I don’t like taking a long of rest for the lactic acid build up, because then my legs feel like 500 pound mounds of flesh. The next time we do something similar I’ going to try and take a 1 minute break between rounds, this time I waited 30-45 seconds to keep it going.
Meals
Read about my day 10 meals here.
In concluding my 10th day of the Paleo Challenge, I am still waking up slowly, but maintaining a constant stream of energy throughout the day, which is nice. I certainty don’t have the roller coaster days where I have this intense level of energy in the morning, and then need to take a nap at 4 pm.
I’ve been strict, nothing that is not strict Paleo for 10 days, even with my Power Supply meals I’m taking out the fruit, nuts, and the crappy bread and wraps that are made of some nut flour or other “paleo friendly” product, but not for this guy. The weight as stabilized, and I think I might have even gained a pound. I am interested in seeing what happens this week in terms of my weight.
I am feeling firmer in parts of my body, underneath the excess skin, and manboobs, I can feel that my chest muscles are firmer.
I would be happy to get to a point of not fucking feeling sore all the time, but my workout performance I feel has improved over the last week. I know part of it is, the fact that I’ve stopped all outside work. There are times though that it’s hard not to go to WSC and get on an Arc Trainer or rower for 30 minutes.
I have nothing more inspirational, or thoughtful to say, but I did just say that below my layer of fat and skin I have a six pack brewing.
Job well done Louis. I think you can call the Paleo challenge a success and go back to eating lots of carbs/sugar/dairy and drinking heavily.
You should probably start that now. I would also suggest adding Jazzercise to your workout routine. It’s all the rage.
Chad,
I’m more a Zumba guy myself, and I think on your advice I’m going to eat a big pile of rice. (You should count on this).
