Day 1 of recovery period. I woke up this morning exhausted. Even with all the workouts, and low caloric intake, and many days which started lethargically, I never woke up feeling spent. So waking up feeling drained, I Immediately I knew my decision of using this week as a recovery period was the correct choice.
For a good portion of the day I felt out of it, half of me felt as if I needed to be in a gym somewhere, with the other half thinking I belonged in a bed sleeping. By the time 7:00 PM rolled around, and I finally got to the gym for some cardio, I could have easily taken a nap and just blown it off. I did a session of treading, by starting with a 7 minute stretch of time on the Arc Trainer at full incline and resistance. The entire session took an hour.
Of my cardio workouts to date, it was the least awe inspiring. As my arms and legs moved the machine, I didn’t feel as if I had any power. My limbs just felt void of juice.
This week I will visit the chiropractor, and get a deep tissue massage. I also plan on getting some steak; I’ve missed beef for a few weeks, so some red meat is needed, my carnivorous side desires flesh.
I’ve started reading a new book, the Omnivores Dilemma. This book breaks down how our foods are produced, and go through the supply chain of industrialized farming, organic farming, and his personal venture of trying to eat locally including his own home garden.
Halfway through the first chapter, and you come to a realization that the most of what we eat is corn. Corn based products are in almost every product we come into contact with, from food to ceiling tiles. I think this book will prove to be a huge eye opener similar to Food, Inc. In fact the author is featured in Food, Inc. If you haven’t seen this documentary I highly recommend getting it, you will never want to eat corn fed cows again.
Without the workouts I am going to try and do a bit of investigative reporting to replace my usual blog posts. Look out for a possible second post today.
What heart rate zone are you training in on cardio days?
Food, Inc. freaked me out. Scared to pick up the book! Thinking back, I can’t remember the last time I ordered beef since watching that movie.
Embrace the recovery week with no guilt.
Check out the documentary King Corn. You can stream in on Netflix. Goes in to depth on how everything in the American diet is corn-based.
