08/21/2011 Vacation Edition of Recap
In the morning I woke up taking my mutt for a three mile walk, I jogged the last mile3/4 of the walk on the beach. I was amazed at my ability to keep moving and not having my feet get sucked into the sand like quicksand. As much as I hate running it was actually fun to run on the beach, no I haven’t been shanghaied by some super skinny, lanky crazed runners, I just found it fun to do something I wasn’t able to do a few months back.
After my walk/run I headed to the gym. The gym is actually not bad for being part of a “spa” about 25 minutes south of where we rented the beach house. The house turned out to be incredible, well worth the rental cost.
At the gym I followed a simple plan of doing the Potomac Crossfit Sunday Workout. The workout involved doing , 4 sets of 2 reps of a Snatch Balance. I completed all four sets at 95 lbs. I found that starting on the third set I wasn’t getting underneath the bar fast enough. This is truly a power move when done correctly, the act of getting the bar up, and your body down takes coordination that I clearly don’t have as of this date.
I tried doing another set at 105 lbs, but it just didn’t happen.
The Metcon portion of the workout involved doing, 5 push-jerks, 15 sit-ups, and 2 rope climbs. There was no rope in the gym, and even if there were it wouldn’t have mattered because I would have needed an elevator to get up the rope. I substituted doing 10 back rows using the Smith Machine as my anchor. The total time for the Metcon was 6 minutes 13 seconds.
When I got back from the gym, was tired as I was I felt great. After a day of being stuck in a car all day it felt fantastic getting the blood moving through my body, and activating my muscles.
The rest of the day was spent playing the pool and the beach with my nieces. I am proud to say I was able to keep up with them the entire day, a true feat considering this guy could barely play 5 minutes with them in March of this year.
Other than the beach and pool, I fished a bit with my dad, and just relaxed. I am looking forward to unwinding, because I am wound up like an electrical coil in a motor. Tomorrow I plan on another workout, and perhaps will rent wave runner, or take a lessons kite-surfing, again things I would have avoided had I not started to change my body.
So this is what living is like…
nice snatch balances, you’ve got balls doing them without bumper plates!!
Remember, if a gym has dumbbells that’s all you need. 5 rounds of 10 dumbbell thrusters, 10 lunges, 10 situps will put you on your ass for sure.
Also, if you can’t make it one day, here is a list of bodyweight wods that don’t require equipment:

enjoy your rest and sleep 10 hours / night.
