Kung Fu Liz
Thursday’s WoD was an ass kicker; it helped me to reach my dark place. I am always trying to reach that dark place; it’s a personal test to see if I am strong enough to overcome my personal limitations.
There was a moment last night where I thought maybe I should take today off, but I made an appointment with Liz to do a Friday morning workout. I don’t if she missed kicking my ass on a regular basis or just felt the need to bring the evil into my life, but Kung Fu Liz was in full effect.
I warmed up with some volume training doing push-ups, and jumping rope. I am still not able to do double-unders but I am getting closer, towards the end I had an innate feeling that my rope speed was right, but I was still just jumping too much like a fat guy so I was missing the actual rope pass. Each time it would get caught at my feet, and the one time I did get my feet past the double pass, I didn’t keep the rope turning enough so it never got back around.
Kung Fu Master Liz decided today would be a double Metcon Day. When she starts to right WoD followed by a number it normally means I will feel some pain.
WoD 1
7 rounds
3 Snatches @ 105 lbs
250 meters of rowing
It doesn’t seem like much but I’ve realized that any level of work in Crossfit that is done for 7 rounds sucks ass. After the first round I went back to the bar for my snatches, and I just didn’t have any power in my legs, it might as well have been 5 minutes from a weekend bender, let alone the first energy zapping round of work.
Around round 4 is when I felt like Liz had given me a kung fu chop to the forehead. I was transitioning well, and maintaining a good pace with my rowing, but the 105 lbs bar felt like a dead body, what made it worse is that a key component of the snatch is getting under the bar, but when your legs barely want to bend let along a quarter squat, the snatches at this point almost turned into a clean, press. You’ll see in the video.
When I finished the 7th round just under 13 minutes had passed, and I could have gone home feeling like I had a good workout, but Liz being descendent from Shaolin monks realized this fat grasshopper has more juice to give.
The second WoD was a three part joy of walking lunges, box jumps, and ring rows. The walking lunges were done while holding a 10 lbs plate above my head, I had to do 10 per side in each round, then 10 box jumps on a 20” box, and 5 ring rows.
I don’t like Box Jumps, and now I don’t like walking lunges. My nightmare WoD would be running, burpees, and box jumps all in one. This particular workout took another 10 minutes or so, and by the end of it I was drained, extra crusty crispy done.
After watching the video, I can tell that my box jumps have improved, but I still feel very heavy when doing them. When I land it feels like I have landed with two bags of sand on each of my shoulders.
Upon completion of my final round of ring rows, I just laid down on the ground, which I rarely do after a WoD, insert Liz Kung Fu Chop 2 here, it was the KO chop.
A good way to start the weekend…no really…I feel great, but have to get out of a chair like I have hemorrhoids.
