01/06/2012 Paleo Challenge
The next stage of my weight loss evolution, is take up the Crossfit Elite aka Fitness Cult Members on the challenge to eat strict Paleo for 30 days, that and the fact that there’s a prize of about 1000 dollars at stake. My Asian side will always beat the crap out of my fat side.
The challenge involves doing a series of 3 WoDs this Saturday the workouts are as follows:
WOD 1
AMRAP 1 Min Pullups*
AMRAP 1 Min Pushups*
AMRAP 1 Min Situps
AMRAP 1 Min Squats
*If you scale to either ring rows or pushups, you’ll be given a factor of .8 on your score.
WOD 2
You have 10 minutes to work up to a 1RM Clean (Power or Squat)
WOD 3
AMRAP 6 Minutes:
5 Burpees
10 KB Swing, 55/35*
15 Push Press, 45/35*
*These are prescribed weights, but you can scale. If you use these weights, your score is multiplied by 1.0, if you scale the weight, your score will be multiplied by: Your Weight/Prescribed Weight.
The results of the 3 WoDs are recorded, and then calculated against the same workouts at the end of the challenge one month from Saturday. Your workout scores, and your before and after pictures are all used to determine a winner.
I am looking forward to this challenge, to first help focus my efforts, but to also put this Paleo shit to the test. I’m tired of hearing shit about how to lose from people who haven’t lost weight, or haven’t worked with morbidly obese people to lose weight. Sometimes I feel like I’m talking to a guy who works on performance sports cars tell me how to fix my diesel truck.
In any case, it’s time to put up or shut up. Aaron who’s one of the coaches at PCF has left some thoughtful comments over the last couple of days, and reminded about the function of insulin in muscle building and fat storage. It’s made me realize that I need to get with a new primary care physician this next week, and have my A1C checked, and see if I need to be on a different medication.
I’ve had almost two moments of hypoglycemia, once at the gym and once before going to the gym. It’s a bit of cause for concern, and when I first got back from Malibu I a hit point of no progress in weight loss and had to see an endocrinologist who changed my meds, I think I need to see him again.
With everything being said, it will also be an opportunity to focus on nutrition and not working out. I’m going to push hard during my workouts, and not incorporate too much outside work. During the next 30 days we will be going into the meat of my businesses season, so I won’t have much time for extra work, or the energy.
If you don’t know what the Paleo Diet you can read more about here…one of my competitors posted the following on his blog, so thanks Sex in the City Fan Club President, you know who you are…
Time to bring it.
I plan on journally daily for the next 30 days.
Good luck Louis. There’s a skinny bastard inside of you, I know it.
don’t mess it up or we’re not friends anymore.
Good luck? I got this in the bag…winner…winner…chicken dinner!
We’re friends? Haha!
