Woke up at 6 AM to go to Crossfit, I scheduled a session with Liz at 7:45 AM because I couldn’t see myself doing power cleans with my thumb in a splint. When I woke up at 6 AM I had a throbbing pain from my thumb, it was so painful that I tried to pick up a bottle of water and I could barely get my hand around it.
I went to the bathroom, to try and take the bandage off of my thumb to take a look, it was not fun pulling the tape off, when I did get the entire wrap, and splint off my thumb looked as if it had been run over by a street paver. I guess in my efforts the night before to tightly wrap it, and keep pressure on it had been a bit too successful.
I used this pain as a reason to cancel my session with Liz last minute. Not my proudest moment.
It wasn’t until 9 PM this evening that I was able to get to the gym. I did a session of treading on the elliptical, it was the first time I turned the cross ramp, and the resistance to 20, I actually found it challenging at those levels. Starting with 5 minutes of full resistance and cross ramp, then 5 minutes of active recovery, it eventually works down to 1 minute each.
My thumb turned out to be less of an issue than I thought; I just had to use a grip which allowed the bottom of the splint to brace against the handle of the elliptical. I didn’t get a good sweat, but I felt challenged along the way. I think I may have also been dehydrated today.
I am going to try and do a duo tomorrow which will have me up to my five workouts for the week.
