Day 2 Fitness Ridge Malibu
6:00 AM Stretch was good. The class was taught by Sam from Season 9 of Biggest Loser. My legs are really sore from the stretching. This morning’s stretch was packed, the class was full of people of all shapes and sizes. It nice that everyone is just motivated to work out, and there are no “judging eyes”. The stretch lasted about 45 minutes, immediately followed by breakfast, and a quick summary of today’s hike.
The weather here this morning looked as if we were going to have a picturesque day but it turned out to be another rainy day. Within 15 minutes of the hike my shoes and socks were soaked. The trail guides tried to keep us on as solid a surface as possible. I think I was doing pretty well until we reached a patch of road where we were told to go as fast as we can, my left calf muscle kept cramping up so I was the stereotypical FAT guy at the end of the line.
When we actually hit the trails I did pretty well, it took a good bit for my calf tightens to go away, and once it did I was at the front with the guide. In a two hour stretch I went from being concerned about being able to keep up, to really pissed off being last, to jogging down the trail back toward the vans.
For having a really small breakfast and a two hour hike in the rain I am surprisingly not that hungry. I am off to something they call “Mountain” it’s a 45 minute cardio session, by the name of it, it can’t be good. Sam is teaching this class, and he wants to see what I got before our training session tomorrow.
12:22 pm, just finished up a cardio class called “Mountain”. It starts with a 6 minute warm up; then you increase the level of difficulty every 3 minutes. It’s a high intensity workout. I’m now off to lunch, for a filling 400 calories, oh joy.
After my “lunch”, three separate sessions of cardio.
2:30 pm – Interval training (alternating between cardio and weights)
3:30 pm – Core Training aka rip your abs, back and ass, and cry like a little girl…
4:30 pm – Swimming Interval Training (a whale was sighted in the hills of Malibu)
All in all a very busy day, and I am surprisingly spry. I am going to go eat “dinner”. The highlight of the night trip to Target! I bought 5 hour energy because, YES I'm a big fat cheater! I want to have it has a security blanket. I felt shitty on the hike today and I want to be able to keep up tomorrow.
I've met some very nice people, everyone is very positive, and very motivated. There is not a whole lot of whinning or crying. I'm still a bit put off by the overlly Ra-Ra culture. Two things I find very interesting about Fitness, one many of the people that work here have had their own struggles with weight, and are really committed to their jobs. Two, because the workouts are mostly cardio oriented the pace is all self designated. After day one I know whatever I get out of these next two weeks will be a direct result of what I put into the workouts.
By for now!
Make the most of it little brother. Learn some things and teach them to me. Hope you have a successful trip and a safe one, too. later.
